Please post your answers as comments to this post ... I'll post the questions as we go along.

1. what newspapers ... what format e.g. State Journal-Register - print; Chicago Trib - online

2. how often ?

3. which parts do you read? ... ignore? What information do you go to the newspaper for? e.g. in-depth political (sports) coverage and analysis

4. When is the last time you paid money for a newspaper?

5. Trick question (for extra credit): Which part of the newspaper do you think the most people read?

1. I usually do not read any newspaper, if I do it would be the State journal Register; print.
2. Only if someone told me there was an interesting article.
3. It depends, an interesting article that I hear through the grapevine. I used to look up movies in the paper but now I just use my phone. I read the sports sometimes, and that is usually it.
4. Never.
5. Lunch menus :)

When I do read Newspapers, I usually read my hometown newspaper the "Pantagraph" out of Bloomington. Or I read USA Today online. I probably read the newspaper once a week. I tend to read the local news, entertainment, weather and sometimes sports sections. The last time I spent money on a newspaper was about three weeks ago on vaction as I was passing through the airport. And I had no idea lunch menus were published in the local newspapers now, but it makes a lot of sense.

1. The main newspaper I read would be the SJ-R, sometimes in print form, but mainly on-line.
2. I read the newspaper just about every day.
3. I pay close attention to the main stories, city/state, police beat and sports section. I don't pay much attention to the business section.
4. I don't remeber the last time I paid for a newspaper. If I dont have it at home in print form, I'll just look it up on the internet.
5. School lunches

1)I read The State Journal-Register. 2)I try to read the paper once a day for the most part, but sometimes I don't get a chance to. 3)I like to look at the City/State page to see whats going on locally and I always look at the Sports page. I try to pretty much glance over the whole paper though. 4) My parents pay for the newspaper so I've never had to pay for the newspaper personally. 5) The lunch menu!

I actually still do read the State Journal register. I get one every day on my porch and most of the time read some things out of it everyday. I always read police beat, look at the classifieds, occasionally read a comic, I always do the soduko puzzle in it everyday too. I always look at the weather and just like reading about what's going on. Sports is something that I occasionally look at. I never really look at the politics section. My family gets the paper everyday but the last time I payed for one outside somewhere was about 2 weeks ago on my way to Chicago at a gas station.

1- I'll look through the paper at work from time to time but I usually get on Sj-r.com because its the one website not blocked by the company.

2- I get on sj-r.com usually once or twice a day.

3-I like looking at the classifieds because they have cute puppies for sale and since its online a lot of the ad's have pictures. Also police beat. I tend to find some of the stroies pretty hilarious. I ignore the politics section and about how crappy Illinois government is and how in debt we are.

4- I have never spent money on a newpaper unless it was for my grandma who gave me the money to run to the gas station and get her one.

5-the first page is more then likely the most read part of the newspaper then after that I would guess the classified for jobs since unemployment rate is up.

About Me

Springfield (Ill.), United States
I'm a retired English, journalism and cultural studies teacher at Springfield College in Illinois (acquired by Benedictine University and subsequently closed). I coordinate jam sessions for the "Clayville Pioneer Academy of Music" at Clayville Historic Site and the Prairieland Strings dulcimer club, and I sing in the choir and the contemporary praise team at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. On Hogfiddle I post links and video clips for our sessions and workshops on the mountain dulcimer (a.k.a. "hog fiddle"), as well as research notes on folklore and cultural studies, hymnody and traditional Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian music. I also posted assignments and readings in my interdisciplinary humanities classes. The Mackerel Wrapper (now on hiatus), carried assignments and readings for my mass comm. students. I started teaching b/log when I chaired SCI-Benedictine's assessment committee, and reopened it as the privatization of public schools grew increasingly troubling and closer to home.
