- I'm a retired English, journalism and cultural studies teacher at Springfield College in Illinois (acquired by Benedictine University and subsequently closed). I coordinate jam sessions for the "Clayville Pioneer Academy of Music" at Clayville Historic Site and the Prairieland Strings dulcimer club, and I sing in the choir and the contemporary praise team at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. On Hogfiddle I post links and video clips for our sessions and workshops on the mountain dulcimer (a.k.a. "hog fiddle"), as well as research notes on folklore and cultural studies, hymnody and traditional Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian music. I also posted assignments and readings in my interdisciplinary humanities classes. The Mackerel Wrapper (now on hiatus), carried assignments and readings for my mass comm. students. I started teaching b/log when I chaired SCI-Benedictine's assessment committee, and reopened it as the privatization of public schools grew increasingly troubling and closer to home.

I am writing my feature story on the opinion that a former chief of investigations at the Springfield Police Department has on Springfield being named the third most dangerous city in America. The person I will be interviewing is Clay Dowis (my dad!) and also be previewing what it was like to work in investigations within the department.
I am going to be writing my feature story on Dean Williams "Photographer of the Stars" I will explain what he has done over the years to make it to Hollywood and all the ends and outs of working on a movie set, and being part of the production crew.
I am going to do a feature article on skydiving. I will interview a few people I know who went skydiving this past weekend. I will go over the precautions, the training needed, and the actual experience.
I am writing my feature story on those who I know that were there for the 9-11-01 attacks and families I know who were affected from post 9-11-01 because of the war on terrorism.
I think I am going to write about a bar (not sure which one yet) I will be interviewing the people I find at this establishment.
My grandmother has lived in Springfield for almost 84 years (all of her life). I plan to interview her and see what she has to say about her hometown. How has it changed over the years? The landmarks, the people, and the overall environment? Has she noticed any changes in the local government? What would she do differently than all those who were mayor if she could have been mayor? What are some of her fondest memories of living in Springfield?

I will be doing my feature article on Coach Tor. He has been in the baseball world a long time. I want to discover the ins and outs of coaching. also, what is different from coaching at sci to benedictine.
I was going to interview a state worker. I was going get his or her opinion on the difference between the Quinn and Blagjevich eras of being governor of the state of Illinois.
I am going to write a story about young college graduates, and their struggles in finding employment.I will probably throw some crap about the economy in there as well.
I am looking into writing a feature story about state job lay-offs in the current economic state and interviewing my father who has worked for the treasurer’s office for over 15 years and had to face losing his job due to job cuts.
My second option is to interview a family friend about owning a small business.
My story will feature poet, John McCarthy, on the growth of the slam poetry movement and its presence in Springfield. The article will expand on the background and history of slam poetry, as well as recent developments.
