COMM 150: In-class survey

1. What magazines do you read? List them. How often? Do you read them online or in print?
For example: Relix - every month
2. What does this tell you about the future of the magazine industry?

Post your answers as comments to this blogpost.

1. I rarely read any magazines, except in waiting rooms. If I do pick one up, it is special issue magazine that catches my eye while browsing.

2. The magazine industry is probably suffering and in the future it will become less and less popular.

1. The magazines I read are, Life and Style, InTouch Weekley,US weekley, Cosmo, and Food Network. I read some of these magazines weekley and the two others monthly. I read them in print.
2. This doesn't tell me alot about the magazine industry as a whole. This just shows me what I am interested in, enough to read about. I do believe a lot of people like to read about the gossip so much that they buy a "gossip" magazine onace a week.

1.) The magazines I read are business oriented and photography magazines such as shutterbug, I also once in a while read style magazines but not often at all. I read them in print.

2.) With today and how everything is this shows me that magazines probably wont be around too long or if so they will lose alot of money because you can now read them all online and you can have them at your conveniance right on your computer or e-reader.

The only magazine that I consistently read is Cosmo. I used to have a subscription and I would get one every month in the mail, but now I have it cancelled and if I end up wanting to read one I'll go buy one from Walmart or something. But I never read magazines online personally. I think that many people still read magazines, but now a lot of people do not buy them and just end up reading online, or on new things such as the Kindle. With all of the different technology today, to me it would seem that magazines might be having a harder time than they used to.

1.) I read Cosmo and generally I read it every month when a new issue comes out.

2.) This tells me that the magazine industry still may have a shot of surviving because magazines with purely entertainment purposes, still have value.

all you and in style. im not sure how often i really read them because my mom buys them and reads them and i take them after shes done. i read them in print. i think its a toss up in the magazine industry lots of people still go out and buy magazines every time a new issue is out and theres some that are occassional readers.

1. The only magazine I read on a monthly basis is Men’s Health!
2. The magazines that are staying afloat seem to be niche market magazines.

1. I read Maxim once a month and various auto magazines once a month.
2. I think the magazine industry may be suffering because people are going to the internet to read them instead of buying them

1. I read Star magazine and Cosmopolitan magazine. Occasionally Rolling Stone if someone I like is on the cover. I read Cosmo every issue and Star as well. I read them in print.

2. From what I know a lot of people read the gossip magazines and the magazines that talk about the "star," this tells me that the world is focusing more on other people's lives rather than the actual important issues in the world. More and more reality TV shows are on TV and more and more gossip magazines are being read. For God's sake, Lindsay Lohan's drug battles are top news lately.

2) i think that magazines are going to be around longer than newpapers because now a days people like reading something that focuses on one thing like people mag fouses on clebes, or the cosmo mag, every girl reads thast even men. i think magazines have solid foundation because there a magazine for about anything that will reach at least someone

1. I rarely ever read magazines. If I do, it is either People or a cooking magazine, maybe once a month. The most I ever read magazines is in the doctors office, actually.
2. Magazines are not as popular as internet these days.

1-People is my number choice of magazines. I however will read others while at a doctors appointment or at work such as cosmo, time, and other news magazines.

2-I believe magazines will be around longer then the newspaper industry will be. I feel that it targets the younger generations.

About Me

Springfield (Ill.), United States
I'm a retired English, journalism and cultural studies teacher at Springfield College in Illinois (acquired by Benedictine University and subsequently closed). I coordinate jam sessions for the "Clayville Pioneer Academy of Music" at Clayville Historic Site and the Prairieland Strings dulcimer club, and I sing in the choir and the contemporary praise team at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. On Hogfiddle I post links and video clips for our sessions and workshops on the mountain dulcimer (a.k.a. "hog fiddle"), as well as research notes on folklore and cultural studies, hymnody and traditional Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian music. I also posted assignments and readings in my interdisciplinary humanities classes. The Mackerel Wrapper (now on hiatus), carried assignments and readings for my mass comm. students. I started teaching b/log when I chaired SCI-Benedictine's assessment committee, and reopened it as the privatization of public schools grew increasingly troubling and closer to home.
