About Me
- Pete
- Springfield (Ill.), United States
- I'm a retired English, journalism and cultural studies teacher at Springfield College in Illinois (acquired by Benedictine University and subsequently closed). I coordinate jam sessions for the "Clayville Pioneer Academy of Music" at Clayville Historic Site and the Prairieland Strings dulcimer club, and I sing in the choir and the contemporary praise team at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. On Hogfiddle I post links and video clips for our sessions and workshops on the mountain dulcimer (a.k.a. "hog fiddle"), as well as research notes on folklore and cultural studies, hymnody and traditional Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian music. I also posted assignments and readings in my interdisciplinary humanities classes. The Mackerel Wrapper (now on hiatus), carried assignments and readings for my mass comm. students. I started teaching b/log when I chaired SCI-Benedictine's assessment committee, and reopened it as the privatization of public schools grew increasingly troubling and closer to home.

I get my news from the local radio stations as well as from national tv and occasionally the internet.
I do not have access on my phone
I check it about five times a week (oncea day) sometimes a little more
I occasionally read a newspaper if I have one available.
And i do not comment on the news via socal networking
I access news from a number of sources. I get the majority of my information from the internet. The two websites I visit the most for news are the sj-r website and cnn.com. Along with the internet I also watch the local news sometimes on tv. The only "dead tree" form of news I access is the school newspaper.
I get majority of my news from desktop/internet usage. For the local news I get majority of my news from the online Il State Journal Register. This website also allows me to see articles from other area local newspapers such as the SunTimes, The Daily Herald, and even the Rockford Star. About once month I will watch local news on Channel 20 but normally I just log onto the SJR website. For World News I review Yahoo main site at least twice a day, there may have been a article that I did not have time to red during my early morning review and more often than not there are additions added throughtout the day. I choose not to use the internet on my cellular phone since I do not want to incure time charges for the usage. I do not communicate for news via facebook or any other social networks.

Americans get there news through all the different type of media we have available to us. Whether it be television, radio, newspapers, internet, magazines, cell phones, billboards, ads, etc. The only time I use my cell phone to get on the internet is to look at my facebook account, so i dont really access the news this way. Ways of receiving news has become so easy now that its almost a competition for different types of media. Who can get it out the fastest? Whats the target audience for the specific news being shared? These are questions asked by news media groups.
All of the above [a-d] from family & friends who heard or seen something before I had a chance to view it.
No I do not access the news from my cellular for one that's too expensive and my daddy pays my phone bill so I have limitations lolz:)
Yes I do acess news from the internet and other computer databases. I go to google and type in a famous person who just passed or had a bad image put out and see the story behind the cover before judging it or agreeing with someone elses views or own opinions.
Yes I do access the news from "dead tree format" flyers around the school telling me of upcoming events on campus + club meetings and so on.
Yes I comment on websites that talk about things going on in the news. Its always good to have an open mind but its twice as good when you get the facts and get down to the truth of the matter.
i access news from radio, newspaper, billboards, email, and word of mouth.
I do get news from the internet once in a whil.
I get news from my cellphone whenever someone decides to send me a text.
