Business Resource Software of Austin, Texas, says, "A mission statement may look simple but it should communicate the core of your organization with a precise statement of purpose. Words should be chosen for meaning and clarity - not technical jargon." There's more. I like it. It's simple. It's clear. And it tells you what to do and how to do it. What's not to like?

The mission statement should be a clear and succinct representation of the enterprise's purpose for existence. It should incorporate socially meaningful and measurable criteria addressing concepts such as the moral/ethical position of the enterprise, public image, the target market, products/services, the geographic domain and expectations of growth and profitability.

Your mission should state your purpose; the reason you are in business. It should reflect the reason that your business opens its doors everyday. It's the passion behind the company, the reason why you would be doing the same thing you are doing even if it did not present you with your daily bank deposit. That is your purpose; your mission.

A mission statement is used by a company to provide a consumer with the overall goal and purpose of the company. The mission statement should include a guideline for the companies actions, as well as direction within the company and leadership when it comes to decision making.

Mission statements should be clear and easy to understand. A mission statement should not be filled with useless jargon in order to make the writer sound smart. It is basically there to announce what a company is all about. Clear and simple.

A mission statement needs to clearly state The business goals and objectives of the company. It should explain what the business is, what special niche it inhabits in the marketplace, and how it will make a difference in the lives of customers and clients.

About Me

Springfield (Ill.), United States
I'm a retired English, journalism and cultural studies teacher at Springfield College in Illinois (acquired by Benedictine University and subsequently closed). I coordinate jam sessions for the "Clayville Pioneer Academy of Music" at Clayville Historic Site and the Prairieland Strings dulcimer club, and I sing in the choir and the contemporary praise team at Peace Lutheran Church in Springfield. On Hogfiddle I post links and video clips for our sessions and workshops on the mountain dulcimer (a.k.a. "hog fiddle"), as well as research notes on folklore and cultural studies, hymnody and traditional Anglo-Celtic and Scandinavian music. I also posted assignments and readings in my interdisciplinary humanities classes. The Mackerel Wrapper (now on hiatus), carried assignments and readings for my mass comm. students. I started teaching b/log when I chaired SCI-Benedictine's assessment committee, and reopened it as the privatization of public schools grew increasingly troubling and closer to home.
